What makes Meshmatic’s CAD conversion so great?

Meshmatic is specifically designed to convert and optimize large CAD files, so it has a different approach for CAD to mesh conversion, compared to other 3D software.

Here’s how Meshmatic does it. Before converting, Meshmatic analyzes all the objects, parents and references in the file. It then begins to tesselate the CAD file. However, since Meshmatic doesn’t need to render 3D projects (it doesn’t have a 3D previewer like most 3D software) it doesn’t need to send tasks to the GPU, so the rest of your hardware isn’t overwhelmed with resource-intensive work. This means a fast conversion with little to no errors.

The best part is that Meshmatic simultaneously optimizes the file as it converts it. For example, in Maya, converting a large model with a million meshes would mean converting each individual mesh – a very heavy process. But Meshmatic optimizes as it converts. So instead of individually converting each mesh and sending thousands of tasks to the GPU, the software instances duplicate assets, deletes empty nodes, and fixes inverted faces as it goes. This means that your CPU and GPU usage is optimized, and you’ll see improved results in game engines.

Next time you need to convert and optimize a CAD file, make sure to give Meshmatic’s highly efficient and accurate CAD conversion a try with your STEP file.
