Meshmatic is quick and simple to use, these steps will guide you through the process.

1. Import your model

Any of the following file formats can be imported into Meshmatic:

CAT part, CAT drawing, FBX, 3ds, SKP, OBJ, STL, STP, STEP

Make sure your file doesn’t go over 1GB. If it does, we recommend exporting only a portion of your project. You can also contact us for more information on custom optimization pipelines.

Once your file is imported, Meshmatic reads the entire file, CAD files are converted to polygon mesh automatically.

2. Choose your optimization preferences

Meshmatic asks you to choose the software you exported your file from, and where you intend to import your optimized file to next, this helps the software better understand your file and optimize accordingly.

3. Choose your LOD’s

Next, Meshmatic focuses on optimizing your file. You can select how many levels of LOD’s you want in your project – from LOD 0 to LOD 5 – and if you want to save the LOD’s in separate files or all in one file.

Unity tip: if you plan on importing your file into Unity, select “Save LOD’s in same files” in Meshmatic. This will make the import process to Unity easier because Unity can autodetect LOD’s and apply them to your camera by finding groups with the same name.

4. Choose to filter out small parts

Small parts – like bolts, screws, cables – can significantly increase the size of your model, while a lot of times they are not needed in your visualization project. Meshmatic automatically detects these small objects and groups them, giving you the option to:

  • Delete them – we recommend this for file size reduction benefits
  • Save them in a separate file – recommended if you want to review the small parts before fully deleting them
  • Not filter them – select this option if you want to visualize small parts in your project

5. Click and go: Meshmatic converts and optimizes your file automatically

From merging faces, instantiating duplicate parts, and re-orienting faces, Meshmatic makes sure your file is optimized and ready to be used.

6. Download your file

Enter your name and email to receive your converted and optimized file from Meshmatic. You are now ready to use your file!
